Wunderle and Peterson maintain lead after second day of National Target
Championships; Penaz and Cousins tied; Ragsdale at top in compound bow category
Canton, Mich. – Victor Wunderle (Mason City, Ill.) and Jessica Peterson (Malibu,
Calif.) maintained their leads in their respective categories at the 118th
National Target Championships/ U.S. Grand Prix today after the second day of
competition.
2000 Olympic silver medallist, Wunderle, shot a score of 1324 in the men's
recurve bow division. Joe McGlyn (Floral Park, N.Y.), is currently second with
1299 points. McGlyn is five points ahead of Jason McKittrick (Holton, Ind.) who
is currently third with 1292 points. Peterson holds an eleven-point advantage in
the women's recurve bow division after shooting a first-round total of 1288.
Judy DeVoll (Gadsden, Ala.) is currently in second place with a score of 1277,
while Roxanne Reimann (Manchester, Conn.) is third with 1273 points. In the
men's compound division, Mark Penaz (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Dave Cousins (South
Portland, Maine) are tied for the lead with 1361 points. Adam Wheatcroft
(Clarkston, Mich.) is in third-place with a two-day total of 1350. Michellle
Ragsdale (New Richmond, Wis.) leads the women's compound division at the halfway
point with a total of 1360. Amber Dawson (Robesonia, Penn.) currently holds the
second place position with 1355 points and Becky Pearson (Vail, Ariz.) is in
third place with a score of 1348. The tournament continues through Friday. Adult
and child archers shoot to earn world ranking points, national ranking points
and the opportunity to win the National Championship. Several countries are
represented at this event.
The tournament continues through Friday. The National Champion will be named on
Thursday. The tournament concludes on Friday with the 6th Annual U.S. Open, a
head-to-head elimination round featuring the top qualifiers shooting the
adult-distances that are up to 90 meters. This Olympic round competition will
complete the tournament with head to head competition in the same format used
during the Olympic Games. The U.S. Open will feature both U.S. and international
competitors. ###
